Darren Lorentz joined the CU Direct Connect team in November 2004, and currently serves as the CIO, with responsibility for the formation and leadership of the overall technological strategy for the organization, as well as the cultivation and development of the highly skilled IT group, which was built from the ground up after his start with the organization. Darren was the Director of Technology and Vice President of Information Technology with CUDC before taking on his current role of Chief Information Officer in 2012.

He has been involved in the auto lending field with a focus on technology since 1991, when the automotive industry was just beginning to embrace the opportunities that automation and connectedness could offer. Darren and his skilled IT team built the core Loan Origination System that is used by CUDC staff, as well as all of the participating auto dealers and credit unions to originate billions of dollars in new loans annually. The group is continually enhancing the system, including the development of interfaces to all of our major clients.

Darren has a passion for learning, and his B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Colorado helps him to take a different perspective when looking to solve business problems with technology. He also co-founded a company (Fenetics) that architected and developed custom web-based software applications for businesses of all types. The experience of founding and building a new company has served to teach invaluable lessons and to cultivate an aggressive entrepreneurial spirit in future endeavors.

Darren spends the majority of his free time with his wife and two beautiful adopted daughters from Vietnam. When he and his wife are not working with local Southern Vietnam charities to support orphanages and orphaned children, he can be found fabricating jewelry designs in silver, copper and bronze for the family business: Nicole Lorentz Designs.
