Tom Helmers joined CU Direct Connect in May of 2003. With more than 24 years of experience in lending and the credit union industry, Tom currently manages all of the company’s sales, marketing and operational functions.

Throughout Tom’s career he has overseen both direct and indirect lending programs before taking an exclusive role support the indirect lending program at CU Member Lending, which eventually became CU Direct Connect. Tom began his time with CUDC as the VP of Operations before moving into a VP of Product and Program Management position. In 2011, Tom accepted the position of Chief Operations Officer for the company.

During his time with CUDC, Tom has spearheaded efforts to present program highlights to NCUA and state examiners, enhancing communication with credit unions and these organizations. Tom also leads the company’s Master Committee and developed the detailed risk management analytic methodology used by many CUDC participating credit unions. In addition Tom is responsible for several key program and products which create the cooperative model of the CUDC program including: Approval Collector, Loan Loss Collector, Member Match, CU Sign Up, customized engines, Examiners Packets and more.

Originally from Iowa, Tom received his B.S. in Business from South Dakota State University and moved to Colorado in 1991. He began his career with ITT Financial and later moved to the Credit Union of Denver. Tom serves on the board for Consumers United Association (CUA) in Colorado and devotes his free time to his wife and two young boys and their dog Jack Daniels.
